Tastefully restored 16th century Farmhouse, Le Manoir, sleeps 8 to 14 near St Mére Eglise, Manche, Normandy to rent

October 16, 2007 by keith

This is our first rental property on the beta “Properties in Normandy” website. We will be adding more over the next few months as well as expanding the range of information available for each location.

So watch this space and in 2009 – expect to see the new “Properties in Normandy” web site fully operational, with even more farmhouses for sale from individuals and estate agents plus holiday and long term rental offers on farmhouses throughout the region.

Our first rental property is a stunner, and that’s from first hand experience, my family stayed here in October 2008.

This is a brief summary of the facilities at Le Manoir, please see link below for more comprehensive information:

Le Manoir is located at the end of a tree lined drive in the countryside only 3k from St Mére Eglise and 9k from Utah beach.

Front entrance to vast kitchen diner, fully equipped and seating for at least 8 people in comfort, leads to hallway, with wc,  and side entrance to original stone spiral staircase, and leads to main lounge and second dining area for up to 10 diners.

This living area is huge, with exposed beams, original stone fireplace dominating one wall and 3 four seater sofas.

On the first floor are two of the biggest bedrooms I’ve ever stayed in (well over 30m2 I guess)

both with en suite bathroom, including bath, shower and toilet.

Further up the spiral staircase leads to two further very large bedrooms, one twin bedded with en suite bath, shower and toilet,

the other larger room has a four poster with en suite, walk in shower, twin hand basins and toilet plus dressing area.

Views from all bedrooms across the 2 acre landscaped gardens and surrounding countryside. Outside across the croquet lawn, well that’s what we used it for, is a lovely renovated cottage with fitted kitchen, lounge and double bedroom with en suite upstairs.

Across from which is the barn which houses the boiler room and washer, dryer etc, next to this is the games room with pool table, soccer table and other games with wet room off this and upstairs a bedroom with double bed and bunk beds too.

Graham and Barry bought this 16th century manor house back in 1999 and have spared no expense in renovating it to the highest standard. At the same time they have managed to maintain all the old charm you would expect from accommodation of this age – stone flagged and tiled floors, exposed beams, wooden floors upstairs, many original interior doors, wooden framed traditional windows and doors.

And, you’re not going to miss out on home comforts. All the accommodation is centrally heated (radiators and underfloor heating) from the main boiler room which also produces all the hot water you will need; most of the windows and doors are double glazed (and they all fit perfectly too!); there’s plenty of cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery and utensils; rainy day entertainment is in abundance with independent Sky TV in the main house and the cottage showing UK programs, fully kitted games room with good quality pool and football tables, games console, bagatelle, boxed games, croquet set, books, cd player and more;

ADSL is available by arrangement with the owners; all linen and bedding is included plus all the other facilities you would expect from a prestige rental including, dishwasher, range cooker, other cooker, microwaves, washing machine, tumble dryer, DVD, video & CD players, ironing board and iron, working fireplaces in main house and cottage, high chair and cot by request.

Turn left out of the entrance and this glorious beach is just 10 minutes away

Le Manoir is easy to get to being just 5 minutes from the N13 which is the main Caen to Cherbourg dual carriageway. 263 miles from Eurotunnel, Calais approx 4 hour drive, 130 miles from Dinard (RyanAir) and St Malo ferries approx 2 hour drive, 25 miles from Cherbourg ferries approx 40 min drive, 110 from Le Havre ferries approx 2 hour drive, 60 miles from Ouistreham, Caen ferries just over an hour’s drive and just 50 miles from Caen Carpiquet airport less than an hour away. Have a look at our get to Normandy pages with recommendations.

There is a surfeit of things to do from Le Manoir at Ecoqueneauville: D-Day landing beaches and associated museums and memorials, Bayeux tapestry, St Mére Eglise, Marais du Cotentin Park & Reserve, numerous harbours and leaisure beaches are all on the doorstep click here for further information.

Properties in Normandy are not travel agents or estate agents. We are providing an internet service for vendors which gets more information to you, their prospective customer, plus more background and ancillary information to give you a more detailed brief on what’s available and where. You will be dealing direct with the estate agents or individual vendors to whom you will be directed through this site.
